Tips for Choosing a
Remodeling Professional
Choosing the right remodeling professional may take time, but the potential
for unsatisfactory work, unnecessary costs, and unplanned legal hassles more
than justifies the extra time you should spend searching for the right
professional.
Your Search Begins . . .
Ask trusted friends, relatives, and business associations for
recommendations.
Ask the remodeler for references. If possible, view some of the remodeler’s
previous work.
More Tips!
Will you be able to have a working relationship with the remodeler? Does the
remodeler listen to what you have to say?
If subcontractors or suppliers are used, make sure that your contractor signs
waivers to shield you from any claims or liens that they may have against the
remodeler.
Before allowing the work to begin, check with the bank to make sure that you
can finance the project at terms that you can afford.
If your home improvement work is the result of damages covered by insurance,
check with your insurance company before signing the contract.
And Finally,
Do not sign a completion certificate until you are absolutely satisfied that
the job has been properly completed according to the contract, and, all
inspections have been completed by local building authorities. |
